Brief introduction

Derived from this archive's verified English and Chinese subtitle tracks

The VORTEX film record preserves performance, rehearsal, and live adjustment in one sequence. Its subtitles move from housing, transport, work, and the rules of love in a staged date to monologues about turning thirty, desire, assigned partners, and “uselessness,” entwining intimate relations with a function-driven social order.

  • The dating scene tests compatibility through mortgages, an apartment, a bicycle, and income.
  • The performance repeatedly asks whether love can ignore common ground and imposed rules.
  • Passages about turning thirty and partner allocation place intimacy inside institutional management.
  • Near the end, “uselessness” is posed directly against a function-first society.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION

Published description

11 performers turn a Beijing underground parking garage into a stage in VORTEX—the surviving film-version camera record made on 5 March 2022. Mandarin audio; Simplified Chinese and English subtitle tracks are included. VORTEX — FILM VERSION This is the surviving film-version camera record made in an underground parking garage on 5 March 2022, during the development of VORTEX and one week before the public performance of 12 March. The recording includes performed material, rehearsal exchanges, direction, and the working process around the camera. ARCHIVAL EDIT Three recovered 4K camera files have been joined in capture order. The first continues directly into the second. The second and third share 03:45 of matching footage; that overlap is included once. No scene or spoken passage has been reordered. The recovered source files remain preserved unchanged. This YouTube access copy is presented at 1080p. WORK VORTEX Creator: Beifeng Theatre Recorded: 5 March 2022 Location: underground parking garage, Beijing, China Running time: 01:05:22 Record type: surviving film-version and development-period camera record Archive code: P4C-VORTEX-20220305-FILM-ZHEN-V1 ABOUT THE WORK VORTEX emerged from approximately one month of collective creation. Bodies, loose pages, exposed speech, improvised movement, and the collapse of the performer-spectator boundary turn the site into an unstable event. In this film-version record, the underground garage is not a neutral backdrop: its lanes, columns, mirrors, and fluorescent light become part of the work. LISTED PARTICIPANTS Liang Yin, Qu Wenhao, Zhou Boru, Gao Pengfei, Zhang Haolin, Guo Qian, Wang Qing'er, Wang Baokun, Chen Chen, He Fa, Qi Zetao Presented by Beifeng Theatre Archived by P4 Theater SUBTITLES Mandarin Chinese audio. Simplified Chinese and English subtitle tracks are included. The captions were prepared with machine-assisted transcription, conservative editorial correction, and bilingual translation. Off-axis or overlapping rehearsal speech is rendered conservatively where the recording is unclear.
