VIDEO DESCRIPTION
Published description
Being heard is not the same as being answered.
A request for a reply turns into a question for the person holding the camera.
SOMEWHERE WITHOUT A CAMERA is a newly edited short film from Human Surrender rehearsal and filming material. A conversation moves from feeling relaxed, to being happy, to the different meanings of taking a break. Then the camera itself enters the argument.
The opening is a brief flash-forward. An on-screen note marks the return to earlier that morning. Performed dialogue is not presented as evidence of the participants' private relationships.
Mandarin location sound with Chinese and English subtitles embedded in the picture. Separate Chinese and English CC tracks are also available. One quiet response is marked unclear rather than invented.
No added music, synthetic narration, or generated performances.
Recorded in August 2023. Newly edited in 2026.
